INCA JUNGLE TO MACHU PICCHU 3 DAYS

Day 1: Santa María → Huamanmarca → Santa María

• Activities: Mountain biking, whitewater rafting, tour of local coffee and fruit plantation (all equipment included)

• Lodging: Stay with a local family in their home of Santa María

We'll start our journey by picking you up at 6:00 a.m. from your hotel in Cusco via private transport. After a stop for breakfast and supplies in Ollantaytambo, we'll continue driving to the mountain pass of Abra Málaga, where our mountain biking adventure begins. After a short practice session and bike testing at over 4,000 meters above sea level (more than 13,000 feet), we'll begin our thrilling descent to Huamanmarca, a small Inca city located at 1,800 meters above sea level (5,906 feet).

Following a guided tour of the archaeological site of Huamanmarca (“Lands of the Falcon” in Quechua), we will continue by private transport to Santa María, where we will stay in a welcoming family home surrounded by plantations of coffee, coca leaf, bananas, and citrus. You'll enjoy a delicious traditional lunch before we head to the Vilcanota River for an exciting white water rafting adventure. Afterward, we will spend time with the local family, learn about coffee preparation, and taste fresh fruits from the plantation if they are in season. After a homemade dinner, we will rest for the night.

Day 2: Santa María → Santa Teresa → Aguas Calientes

• Activities: Hot springs of Cocalmayo (entrance fee included), ziplining (equipment, fees, and safety briefing included)
• Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner included
• Lodging: Hotel in Aguas Calientes

After breakfast with the family, we'll take local transport to Santa Teresa, where we'll spend two hours relaxing in the hot springs of Cocalmayo. Next, we will head to the zipline base of operations, where we’ll receive a safety briefing and all the necessary equipment to experience four exhilarating mountain-to-mountain ziplines soaring 250 meters above the valley. The ziplines range from 600 meters to one kilometer in length and include a suspension bridge—an unforgettable adventure!

Our next stop is San Gabriel Restaurant, where we will enjoy a delicious local lunch while taking in a stunning view of Machu Picchu. Afterward, we will continue our journey to Aguas Calientes (the town nested below the citadel of Machu Picchu), where we will check into our hotel. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner together at Full House Restaurant—the best restaurant in Machu Picchu—before getting a good night’s sleep.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes → Machu Picchu → Ollantaytambo → Cusco

• Activities: Hike from Aguas Calientes to the entrance of Machu Picchu, 2.5 hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, free time to explore Aguas Calientes in the afternoon 
• Meals: Hotel breakfast (lunch and dinner not included)
• Lodging: not included this night; we will return to Cusco by bus in the evening 

We will start our day early, leaving the hotel at 4:30 a.m. to begin our hike to Machu Picchu. (For those who prefer not to hike, we recommend taking the optional bus for $12USD). This legendary hike through the jungle and up stone steps takes approximately 1.5 hours.

Upon arrival at the Machu Picchu entrance gate, we will check in with our official, original passports. Our mission is to enter together at 6:00 a.m. to witness the stunning sunrise over this ancient wonder while the birds are still singing, and before most other tour groups arrive.

We will take breathtaking photos at the famous Postcard Viewpoint, followed by a 2.5-hour guided tour of the Inca city of Machu Picchu. Our guides will illuminate the significance of many architectural details and share the ancient and modern history of this remarkable site. 

After exiting the UNESCO World Heritage site, we will make our way back down to Aguas Calientes by foot or by bus (bus for extra fee). You will have free time to explore Aguas Calientes and eat lunch in one of its many restaurants (today’s lunch is not included). Finally, you will board the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a bus back to Cusco. A private driver will then drop you off at your stay in Cusco, thereby concluding your adventurous trek.
